Illuminating Futures Through Free Bridge Education.
In the bustling alleyways of Barra World Bank and South Kanpur, hundreds of children of daily-wage laborers, ragpickers, and roadside hawkers once watched life pass by. Nanhe Kadam bridges the literacy divide with daily community classrooms, hot nutritious meals, and dignified pathways to formal schooling.
From Ragpicking to English Rhymes
Every evening from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM, this shelter transforms from empty pavement into Kanpur’s most vibrant nursery of young dreamers.

Holistic Empowerment: The Four Pillars of Nanhe Kadam
We don't merely run cram sessions. We architect a protective ecosystem that restores childhood, breaks intergenerational illiteracy, and prepares youngsters for formal institutional schooling.
Foundational Literacy & Numeracy
Bilingual mastery in Hindi Devanagari & basic conversational English, combined with functional math to prevent roadside exploitation of young sellers.
Hygiene, Ethics & Life Skills
Daily handwashing rituals, dental hygiene kits, emotional self-regulation, gender sensitivity, and basic civic awareness for first-generation learners.
Formal School Mainstreaming
We resolve missing Aadhaar cards, birth certificates, and parent hesitations to seamlessly integrate students into Uttar Pradesh Government primary schools.
Fortified Nutrition Support
No empty stomach can absorb lessons. Every attendee receives boiled eggs, bananas, multigrain porridge (Daliya), or fortified biscuits post classroom session.
Operating Two Structured Shifts in Kanpur
Because most of our students contribute to their families through street chores in peak daylight, Nanhe Kadam runs dual morning and evening shifts so that no child is forced to choose between familial survival and their human right to education.
